The Coordination of Indigenous Organizations of the Brazilian Amazon – COIAB, founded on April 19, 1989, is the largest regional indigenous organization in Brazil, which emerged through the initiative of leaders of indigenous organizations existing at the time, and as a result of the process of political struggle of indigenous peoples for the recognition and exercise of their rights, in a scenario of social and political transformations that took place in Brazil after the Federal Constitution of 1988.
